Best Cat Book Gifts for the Holidays – Day 20: “Really Important Stuff My Cat Has Taught Me” by Cynthia L. Copeland

As a reminder, I am reviewing one book each day until Christmas, in no particular order.

Each choice is special in its own way. All would make great gifts for your cat addicted book lovers. Or your book addicted cat lovers.

Why cat books? Several reasons, really. I adore cats. Cats appear in most of my fiction. And I enjoy promoting cat books for the holidays, because I frequently give or get them as gifts myself. And finally, so many people have a cat, that cat themed gifts are an industry. You can’t go wrong.

Today I am reviewing “Really Important Stuff My Cat Has Taught Me,” by Cynthia L. Copeland.

Yesterday’s book was a serious and touching tearjerker. This one is light-hearted popcorn. It’s tagline doesn’t disappoint – there are some good life lessons, but they are accompanied by cute and touching photos of  cats. If you’re going to get a dose of wisdom, it might as well come with a picture of a cat.

I love a lot of these photos and their sentiments. Some of my favorites:

  • A gorgeous gray cat being snuggled with a kiss on its head, eyes closed in bliss. The caption is, “The most meaningful thing you can give someone else is your full attention.”
  • A ginger and white cat on its back in the grass with blooming flowers, eyes closed, paw in the air. The caption is, “Adopt the pace of nature: Her secret is patience.”
  • A black cat climbing amidst red rock cliffs. The caption reads, “The world is as big as you are brave.”

There are several themes for the advice in the book including:

  • Be the exception
  • Take it all in
  • Live on the edge
  • Let your mind wander
  • Add whimsy to the world
  • Rub people the right way
  • Make an entrance

In addition to the quotes and cute pictures, there is the added bonus of a few short stories about extraordinary cats. Several that stood out to me include:

  • A cat that fostered a spider monkey
  • A cat who was launched into space AND returned safely
  • A cat who rides the bus all by itself
  • Millie, the hiking cat (mentioned above in the red rock cliffs)

The book is not heavy on text. It has a lot of photos. All are good. Some are great. This is a wonderful choice again for a stocking stuffer or add-on gift for a cat lover in your life. It’s 176 pages, so there’s quite a bit here to look at. Again, I predict, your recipient may pause the holiday festivities to thumb through it, enjoying the contents. This one is widely available and will be easy to pick up in time for Christmas.
