I sent The Appearance of Power to the proof read editor today, and that edit will take about 6 weeks, give or take. But that doesn’t mean that April will be a boring month.
I have several things I can work on – creating my card game, looking into a map, contacting the cover creator, soliciting author blurbs, and writing the cover blurb and sales description. I am also going to look into book reviews.
In addition, I am attending the Chanticleer Author Conference in Bellingham, WA this month (cover photo was taken at last year’s conference). The conference is a great way to network with other authors and to learn more about writing craft and marketing.
Guests at the conference this year include Donald Maass, a major literary agent, who is giving a master class on advanced writing craft. I have taken master classes with him before and he is phenomenal. I am also looking forward to talks from Mark Berridge, a wonderful author and motivational speaker from Australia, Diana Garland, who is THE expert on series bibles, and Strider Klusman, a great writer and fantastic podcaster. There are so many others too!
I’ve had a sneak peak at the schedule, and it’s possible I may also get to be on a panel myself. I’ll wait until it’s finalized to say more about that, but it will be a privilege if that pans out!
The other exciting thing for me at CAC26 is the awards banquet. My short story, Purrfect Revenge, is a finalist in the SEA Shorts category. I am crossing my fingers it does well. Last year I won a first place award in the category for Finding Namaste, and the year before I won grand prize for The Heart of Kublai Khan’s Menagerie Keeper.
On top of that, I have a full reading schedule, with about a dozen books on my TBR pile. Check out my previous post if you want to know what’s on it!
Thanks for reading!
